It seems that in todays day everything is done on the go. This is the same for todays gaming. People are playing more and more on handheld devices while hectically getting from A to B in their daily lives. The mobile game "Game of War" is one of the popular games that has recently come out. One of the Ads for the game portrays Kate Upton as some sort of Queen leading an army shown here.

Using a woman like Kate Upton in the ad someone who is known by society as a "sex symbol" gives many people a motivation to play the game. The ad starts with her scandalously sitting in a bath getting pampered by two other woman. Its obvious that the target audience is 16-40+ year old males, not to say that woman cant play the game because they can. The motivation is to "rule an empire" like she says in the begining of the ad. This plays on many mens "manly" emotion and that feeling rises where you feel more important that you really are. As though you might actually rule an empire.

The abilities are money, time, power, and possibly sexuality. The game is free for anyone to play making it much more accessible for people. Also games like these today are a time waster. When you have five minutes before a class you turn on Game of War and rule an empire for a moment to pass the time. This in turn leads to the feeling of power. The idea that you can unlock your phone fire up the app and rule an empire. Every time someone loads up the app they see Ms. Kate Upton again reminding them just how sexy and badass this game is "or so they think".

Triggers would be actually downloading the app and playing the game. At the end of the video you see Kate seductively looking in to the camera and asking if you want to come and play. Boom you are hitting that download button. The makers of the ad and game have just pulled your trigger and before you know it your downloading this ridiculous app. No offense if you play this game.

Process premise for the ad are the emotion that the ad plays on the person watching the video. Remember the target audience here. This ad plays on how simple minded men can be and plays on our very simple emotions. The emotion that you can get a woman like Kate Upton and you can lead and empire all false ideas. The attitude that you are a badass and can do anything you want just download this app. It plays a little into mens testosterone to try and be bigger and badder than the guy next to him.

Interesting to see an ad like this after being in class. Makes me think what sort of things I have been tricked into after knowing Fogg's model.

  1. I really like the way you explained "how simple minded men can be". I think that everything these days exploits women's sexuality to get men to buy the crap they are selling. This is similar to the Carl's Jr. commercials, which I cannot stand to watch, where the women are always wearing next to nothing and trying to eat in a seductive way. There are always two sides to everything and women's rights are no exception. One side hates how they are exploited sexually and the other makes an effort to do exactly that. But what do I know, I am a guy!

  2. The use of Kate Upton as a sex symbol is definitely a marketing strategy used to get men to play the game. I bet $10 that Upton has never played this game in her life. But using her -- or more to the point her body-- to give the appearance that men will have this kind of interaction when playing the game seems to work, This was an interesting topic. Great job!

  3. Being a gamer I must admit I am certainly partial to this type of add. Plus, the sexuality used in it to appeal to the male gaming demographic is particularly persuasive. Overall, nice analysis and great choice in artifact, haha.

  5. I have seen all these commercials with Kate Upton and I also laugh out loud that they use a pair of hooters to get men to play a video game. I personally would like to see some killing and strategizing with a game about warfare, but to each his own. Great analysis and definitely a lot of truth about certain topics.
